WCA is proud to offer several extracurricular programs at the middle school! Please check below for a full list of activities, noting the grade-level requirements for each. We are excited to further engage our students through these enrichment programs!
Art Club
Students who join Art Club are able to dive further into art-making! Since core art classes are only available to students for half the year, Art Club provides all students an opportunity to continue to explore various materials, develop their own style, learn about different artists, or try new media. Students are encouraged to expand their knowledge and skills beyond what is generally taught in the classroom.

BattLE of the Books
Battle of the Books fosters a culture of reading at our school! Battle of the Books is a fun Family Feud-style competition where teams of students compete against one another to test their knowledge of a selection of books! We will read and practice throughout the year and compete in a final competition.

Please note that our school library has limited books on hand, so students will be responsible for purchasing or checking out the books on the list. The reading list has links to purchase the books online. Students can also find the books at one of our local libraries. Please make sure to reserve your copies at the library early!

Donate: Battle of the Books is a program that offers 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students the opportunity to read. This program is free to all participants but donations are always appreciated! Donations will go towards purchasing copies of books for our students to check out from the library and hosting an end-of-competition event for our readers. Thank you for supporting a culture of reading at our school!
Costume Design & Prop Club
Are you interested in learning more about costumes, but didn't know where to start? The Costume Design Club is a great opportunity for students to learn how to take measurements, read and assemble patterns, learn manual and machine sewing, and how to craft props out of various materials. No prior sewing knowledge is required!

Disney Imagineering Club
The Disney Imagineering Club will draw on the inspiration from the Walt Disney Imagineers. Students will study the purpose and history of the Imagineers and learn about their creative process. We will explore the technology used and discovered by Disney Imagineers and apply it to design our own concepts. This class will be a magical journey of creativity and technology with a hint of math and science!
Grades: 6th, 7th, and 8th

ESPORTS
Esports takes video gaming to another level with organized competitive gameplay between two teams, governed by its own strict set of rules and guidelines. This club demands critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and creativity for students to succeed.

Game Club
Game Club is open to all grades and is intended to give students an opportunity to interact with others in a fun and competitive environment! The most common games played are Magic the Gathering, chess, checkers, role-playing games, and any other game available in the Media Center. Game Club runs the entire school year; students can join at any point. Game Club has operated for over 8 years and is Windsor Charter Academy’s longest-running club!
Grades: 6th - 12th grade

Japanese Culture Club
Are you a fan of Japanese anime, manga, or video games? The Japanese Culture Club (JCC) is a club where students can meet and learn about Japanese culture. Activities will include watching anime, trying Japanese snacks, learning about Japanese history and culture, drawing anime/manga, and an introduction to the Japanese language.

Math Counts Team
Calling all middle school Mathletes! We welcome you to join our Math Counts Team!
Sponsored by Society of Professional Engineers, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Department of Defense, among others, Math Counts provides engaging math programs to U.S. middle school students of all ability levels in order to build confidence and improve attitudes towards math and problem solving!
Math Counts is a math club where students learn unique math concepts, solve complex problems and apply problem solving techniques they've learned inside and outside of class.
Grades: 6th, 7th, and 8th graders

Meeting Dates: Students meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. from August 16, 2022 through March 23, 2023.

Firebird AMBassador Program
Firebird Ambassadors demonstrate The 8 Keys of Excellence, are interested in developing their leadership skills, and have a desire to make their community and school a better place. Being a Firebird Ambassador is a tremendous honor that comes with great responsibilities. Firebird Ambassadors are leaders who model the school's expectations and are willing to stand up for what is right.
Grades: 6th, 7th, and 8th graders
Application Process: Students who are interested in participating in this program need to fill out a Firebird Ambassador Application. In addition, students need two faculty recommendation letters to be considered.

National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society was founded in 1929 to encourage scholarship among middle school students and foster character, service, citizenship, and leadership. The Phoenix Chapter of NJHS has worked hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and the community. Our chapter, along with the more than 6,000 chapters in schools across the nation, strives to give practical meaning to the Society’s high character standards. The National Junior Honor Society strives to recognize the total student—one who excels in all of these areas. Select students are considered for membership during the second semester of each school year.
NJHS Membership Obligations
Participate in four NJHS Sponsored activities per year
Attend monthly meetings
Uphold a 3.75 GPA
Be an exemplary student, participating in an Individual Service Project and completing five extra service hours per year.
Tech Club
Middle school students are invited to participate in Tech Club! In this club, students will learn about the history of computers, hardware, software, networking, game consoles, gaming physics, digital music, 3D printing, robots, and drones. At each meeting, we will focus on several STEAM topics!

TheatRE Club
All middle school students are welcome to join our Theatre Club! They will develop their performance skills, including acting, singing, and dancing. Theatre Club members can participate in our spring production!

VEX Robotics
Is your student interested in engineering, design, building, or programming? We invite all students to participate in VEX Robotics! Windsor Charter Academy’s award-winning VEX Robotics program was established 5 years ago and our teams have qualified for the state competition every year. In 2019, a WCA team won the state championships and in 2022, a WCA team qualified for the world championships!
VEX Robotics is the largest and fastest growing middle school and high school robotics program globally with more than 20,000 teams from 50 countries playing in over 1,700 competitions worldwide. As a part of VEX Robotics, students learn STEM skills, including engineering skills, project management, and critical thinking skills.

Cost: There is a $250 fee associated with VEX Robotics to help pay for the equipment, team registration, and attending events. Teams try to attend 8 to 10 events a year across the Front Range.

Windsor Charter Academy does not provide medication administration for extracurricular activities unless the school nurse is notified of need. Medication administration will not be available for student-initiated clubs, drop-in events, or non-school sponsored events. Please see the parent handbook for more information regarding medication administration during non-school hours events.
