Friday Firebird Awards

Each week, students are nominated by our teachers to receive a Friday Firebird Award. This award is given to students who set a wonderful example by demonstrating one of the Habits of Mind!

Sara H., a 10th grader, was recognized as a Firebird Award winner! Mrs. Davies shared, “Sarah is a joy to have as a Math 3 student. Every time she walks into math class, she is ready to learn. While she is a good learner, her strength is her continuous ability to follow up.  Sarah will ask good questions and fearlessly volunteer answers. When her answer is off, she will ‘persist’ until she understands. Throughout this process, Sarah has a great, positive attitude that helps make my classroom a safe, fun learning environment for all students.  Thank you, Sarah, for all that you bring to my class and every other class.”

Cadence P., a 9th grader, was recognized as a Firebird Award winner! Mr. Sanchez shared, “I'm nominating Cadence for his ‘persistence’ in engaging with the Spanish language. Cadence constantly wants to understand what he does wrong and how to improve his language skills. Cadence is a model student for his class as he is willing to help explain the content to anyone who needs extra support.”

Evann S., an 11th grader, was recognized as a Firebird Award winner! Mrs. Meister shared, “Evann approaches every situation with such light and positivity! He is always excited to be here and so very engaging with everyone. His strong character and kindness shine through every interaction. We are very lucky to have his influence at our school!

Danitza H., a 9th grader, was recognized as a Firebird Award winner! Mrs. Holt shared, “Danitza volunteered herself and a friend to pick up lunches for her classmates on our recent math field trip. She took responsibility for transporting them throughout the day, including carrying them on our walking portion of the field trip. She provided a needed service with no thought of personal benefit. I have observed Danitza quietly and cheerfully doing acts of service such as this on a regular basis in our classroom. Keep up the good work, Danitza; you are seen, and you are awesome!  I'm so glad to know you!”

Luke T., an 11th grader, was recognized as a Firebird Award winner! Dr. Olson shared, “Luke has been doing an excellent job of digging into memories and converting them into germs of possible memoir essays in English 2021: Creative Writing. He has illustrated impressive personal reflection and a great sense of humor in the process.”

Hadleigh B., a 10th grader, was recognized as a Firebird Award winner! Mrs. Holt shared, “Hadleigh has been a consistently outstanding tutor for both our Math Tutor Program and for her peers during ELO. Her calm, friendly demeanor, purposeful questions, and clear explanations with the person she is working with are highly effective in helping them grow in skill and confidence. I am very grateful for her continued support as I see the positive impact she has. Keep up the good work, Hadleigh - you are awesome!”
